Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers for buying, selling, staying safe, and building trust on Maubazaar.
Section 1
About Maubazaar
What is the concept of Maubazaar?
Created specifically for Mauritius, Maubazaar gives us locals a simple, secure space to buy and sell. From turning unused items into extra cash to finding your next bargain, you have the freedom to buy directly, make an offer, or join a timed auction—connecting directly with our community without middlemen.
What are the three ways to sell an item?
Sellers can choose between: 1) Buy It Now (fixed asking price), 2) Open to Offers (buyers can pitch an offer, with automatic approval if above your private threshold), and 3) Timed Auctions (competitive bidding with automatic incremental defense).
How do I contact a seller?
Register or sign in, open any published listing, and use Ask Seller a Question to arrange a safe handover directly. There is no separate contact fee or purchase requirement for messaging.
Section 2
How to Stay Safe & Build Trust
Why is it important to rate fellow users after every transaction?
Leaving honest feedback after each completed deal is essential. Whether you are the buyer or the seller, leaving a quick rating rewards reliable members, helps weed out bad actors, and builds genuine local trust across the entire Maubazaar community.
Where should I meet the buyer or seller?
Always meet during daylight in busy, well-lit public spaces—such as shopping mall parking areas, filling stations, or near major transit stops. Never agree to meet in isolated spots.
When should I pay for the item?
Inspect before you pay. Never send deposits or advance payments to strangers. Verify the item’s condition and functionality in person before handing over cash or completing a mobile transfer (like Juice).
What should I do if a listing looks fake or suspicious?
Every listing page features a 🚩 Report listing button. Select the reason and any useful detail. Reports are queued for moderation review; a listing may be restricted or removed when the review confirms a violation.
Section 3
Community Rules
What items and behaviour are not allowed?
Keep listings legal, accurate, and respectful. Do not list stolen, counterfeit, dangerous, illegal, or prohibited goods, and do not harass, mislead, or impersonate other community members. Report concerns so the Maubazaar team can review them.
